The Glory of the Lord
The Lord is glory itself. Picture, if you will, the most awe-inspiring sight you've ever witnessed, or the most beautiful, soul-stirring moment you've experienced. The warmth of a loved one's embrace, the sunrise over a tranquil sea, or standing at the edge of a vast, endless horizon. Even these, in their splendor, are but pale shadows compared to the overwhelming glory of the Lord. Imagine standing before the awe-inspiring vastness of the Grand Canyon, where the sheer scale takes your breath away, and yet, there’s an undercurrent of fear, a sense of vulnerability, knowing how deep and perilous the canyon is. The grandeur and majesty of that view, stunning though it is, could never compare to the infinite glory of God.
Think about the overwhelming love and wonder you feel when you first hold your child in your arms. The surge of emotion, the beauty of new life—it is deep and profound, but even this, this monumental moment, falls short of the glory of God. Consider the joy and sanctity of your wedding day, the union of hearts, the covenant made in love before God. The emotions, the elation of that day are immense, yet still, they are but a faint echo when set against the limitless splendor of God’s glory.
What do these experiences show us? The glory of the Lord is something so far beyond what we can fully grasp. It’s more magnificent, more powerful, more transcendent than anything we’ve ever known. But what is this glory? Is it something we can see? A feeling we can grasp?
I believe the glory of the Lord is primarily a spiritual reality. It is not always something that can be touched or seen in the material world, though there are moments when God’s presence makes itself known in a way that captivates our hearts. But the true glory of God is something to be felt deep within our spirits—the unseen part of us that houses our thoughts, our soul, and our heart.
While we may catch glimpses of His glory in this life, there is a day coming when we will see it in its fullness when heaven meets earth. Some, like Moses, were granted a fleeting glimpse of God's glory—a burning bush that spoke with God’s divine authority. Others, like the disciples who witnessed the transfiguration of Jesus on the mountaintop, saw a radiance that left them trembling in awe. But even these moments were but a taste, a foretaste of the incomprehensible beauty that awaits us.
Until that glorious day when we stand before our Creator, we are being prepared in our spirit, our inner being, for the moment when we will see Him face to face. Along the way, we are given brief glimpses—hints of the glory that is to come. Yet, in all of this, we must remember: we worship a God whose glory transcends all that we can imagine. His power is not just mighty; it is all-consuming. His radiance is not just bright; it is beyond comprehension, filling every corner of the universe, and still, it is more than we can grasp.
We are called to seek Him, to worship Him, and to long for that glory that is far greater than anything we have ever seen, heard, or felt. It is the glory of the Creator who spoke the universe into existence, the glory of the One who gave His life for us. And though we may not fully comprehend it now, we are invited to catch glimpses of His glory, knowing that one day, in His perfect time, we will experience it in its fullest, purest, and most overwhelming form.
