Spiritual Shower

Every day, we step into the shower to rejuvenate our bodies, washing away the grime, bacteria, sweat, and odors that accumulate over time. This routine is essential for maintaining our physical health and well-being, a simple yet necessary act to feel refreshed and clean. In a similar way, we must approach God daily to purify our souls, addressing the spiritual dirtiness and sin that cling to us as we navigate life. Just as water and soap are indispensable for cleansing our bodies—whether in the morning to start anew or at night to rinse off the day’s wear—so too are the blood of Jesus and the renewing presence of His Holy Spirit vital for our spiritual cleansing. Without these, we cannot truly be made clean in our hearts and minds.

This spiritual cleansing comes through faith in God’s salvation and a deep love for His Son, Jesus, whose sacrifice makes our redemption possible. Yet, even with this grace, we remain imperfect people living in a fractured world. No matter how much mercy and forgiveness we’ve received, we are still prone to stumble, still shaped by our human brokenness. In Christ, we are indeed made new—transformed into new creations—but that doesn’t mean the process ends there. We must return to Him daily, washing ourselves in His blood, seeking renewal through prayer, repentance, and trust in His finished work on the cross.

If we neglect this, claiming we’re “clean” without actively applying Jesus’ sacrifice to our lives, we deceive ourselves. It’s as absurd as skipping a shower, letting the dirt and stench build up, and insisting we’re spotless. Without the consistent effort to believe in and live out the transformative power of Jesus’ love and atonement, we remain spiritually unclean—carrying the weight of sin while pretending otherwise. True cleanliness, both physical and spiritual, requires intentional action, not just wishful thinking. So, just as we wouldn’t dream of facing the day without washing our bodies, let us not face life without seeking the cleansing grace of God each day.
